Setting up Canvas
Install JB LIbrary Plugin

The jQuery plugin otherwise known as the JB Library is a simple joomla plugin that loads jQuery into the head of your template - You need to install this when setting up Canvas and if you want to use the jQuery effects such as the JB Slideshow, panel menu and superfish menu. See below for instructions on how to do this.

Once you have enabled the plugin there is no need to load the jQuery library again in any other extensions so if you have the option to in other modules please set the option to no or unpublished.

Why are we using this method for embedding jQuery?

By adding jQuery as a plugin we can add other jQuery plugins and scripts in our module son the fly. That means that there is no need to add script references to the head of your template and it also means that scripts only get loaded if the module is present.

Create your own Canvas

Creating your own theme for canvas couldnt be easier. We have separated out the important styling aspects into a simplified css stylesheet so you can grab control of your canvas in a flash. Check out the instructions below for an easy way to make a personal impression on the Canvas Joomla theme.

Working with the Grid

Canvas comes with some really handy flexible module positions that sit beneath the main content of the site - we like to call these nine modules 'The Grid'. The grid consists of 9 module positions from grid1, grid2 ... grid 9. In Joomla 1.5 these module positions are immediately available in the Joomla admin but for j1.0 users you will need to setup the grid module positions as per these instructions.

Quickstart or template

This template comes with two versions of the quick start package. The quick start packages enable you to create a complete replica of the demo site on your own server in a matter of minutes. We have an in depth tutorial on how to set up the quickstart package on the Joomla Bamboo blog and if you have any issues with the installation you can visit the forum or submit a support request and we will help you out. If you are installing the template into a pre-existing Joomla site then this tutorial will show you how to install a Joomla template.

Javascript or no javascript?

Canvas comes ready for some pretty fancy Jquery effects but if you would prefer a template that runs without all of the javascript slickness then you can simply turn it off in the template administrator. This effectively means that you can run Canvas as an extremely light weight template loading no extra scripts than normally run with Joomla; or on the other hand, if you want all of the shiny, sliding Jquery sparkles then you can choose to include the Jquery library and it will run all of the fab modules you see on the demo.
